David is 35 years old, has Down Syndrome and Autism, and lives in his own home in Stourbridge, West Midlands England.

David receives Direct Payments for his assessed social care needs. As a family, we recruit Personal Assistants directly to support him to be as independent as possible and to enjoy life as much as possible.

David needs support with personal care, housework, laundry, gardening, and social activities at home and out in his local community and wider communities.

PERSONAL ASSISTANTS

Have you got: Experience or understanding of Autism, behaviours that can challenge and lone working

We are looking for additional staff to support our current staff team.

Do you have: flexibility when you can work, good communication skills, common sense, a desire to learn, patience, understanding, compassion, self-motivation, ability to think outside the box, passion for person-centred care and support, good time keeping and accurate record keeping?

Do you enjoy having fun, have a bubbly personality, able to stay upbeat even through difficult days?

Do you have a full clean manual driving license?

If you answered YES to the questions above then this is a fantastic opportunity for you to be part of an amazing team supporting one young gentleman in his own home. The role is lone working 1:1 supporting the young gentleman who has Downs Syndrome and Autism.

Full bespoke training will be provided including 2 weeks of paid shadow shifts.

Role: DAY SUPPORT WORKER (Learning Disability and Autism)

Location: STOURBRIDGE - West Midlands - England

Hours: To Be Discussed

Day Shift Patterns: (8am – 3pm or 3pm – 10pm and may include double shifts 8am – 10pm)

Waking NIght Shift Pattern ( 10pm-8am).

Wage: £12.00 ph

What Support Does David Require?

David has 24 hour support, usually 1-1 so Personal Assistants must be comfortable and confident lone working.

Our shifts are:
Early -  8am-3pm
Late -  3pm - 10pm
Double 8am - 10pm
Waking Night 10pm - 8am

Our Personal Assistants get two weeks of paid shadow shifts before being expected to lone work, full bespoke training and a comprehensive care/support plan to refer to.

David requires support with all aspects of his life:

Personal care, meal prep, cooking and dishing up, housework, laundry, gardening, pet care, accessing activities outside of his home, ideas for activities inside his home, staying safe, keeping healthy, taking medication,  living life to the full.

David must be in eyeline at all times so the position is quite intense and requires a high degree of common sense, integrity, patience, and kindness.

Encourage the person they support to learn and use new independence skills.

Help the person they support to make appropriate choices in all areas of their life.

Help the person they support to manage their health needs.

Facilitate hobbies, social activities and friendship making and sustaining for the person they support.

Create new opportunities and experiences for the person they support

Follow the Care and Support plan for the person they support.

Am I protected by Employment law as a directly recruited Personal Assistant for David?

Is this a real job?

Yes is the short answer. All legal services, contracts, employers Insurance, and legislation is provided by Mark Bates Ltd. They also provide access to employ benefits such as legal advice and the Blue Light Card.

Payroll services are provided by Direct Payments Support Team - approved by Dudley MBC.

Travel and Getting Around

David has a manual Motability vehicle.

 Personal Assistants supporting Dave would be expected to drive his vehicle and have a clean full manual driving licence.

Personal assistants are expected to support David to keep his car clean and tidy.

He does not use public transport and cannot walk far due to knee conditions and mobility issues.
